Authenticity explores the courage to embrace every part of ourselves — our strengths, vulnerabilities, experiences and scars — and move forward with confidence.
Rich layers of burgundy, magenta, turquoise and gold create a luminous, deeply textured surface in which nothing is entirely concealed and nothing remains untouched. Fragments of gold emerge through disrupted layers, revealing traces of what lies beneath. These marks become metaphors for the experiences that shape us, reminding us that our scars are not imperfections to hide, but integral parts of who we are.
At the heart of the composition, two interconnected forms suggest the relationship between heart and mind. Branching, vessel-like structures draw on the artist's intimate understanding of human anatomy, creating a visual language of connection, circulation and life. From this complex centre, sweeping gestures expand outward and upward, while flashes of vibrant turquoise introduce vitality, renewal and possibility.
Almost an abstract self-portrait, Authenticity brings together the artist's experiences as both surgeon and painter. Its beauty lies not in perfection, but in the richness of its accumulated layers — the visible and hidden, the delicate and resilient, the ordered and unpredictable.
Ultimately, Authenticity celebrates the freedom that comes from accepting ourselves completely. We do not need to erase our past or conceal our scars to move forward. They are part of our story, and part of our strength.
