Compassion is more than recognising another's suffering. It is the willingness to reach beyond ourselves, to connect, understand and respond with kindness.
In Compassion Reimagined, the delicate, heart-shaped flowers of the bleeding heart (Lamprocapnos spectabilis) become a symbol of empathy, vulnerability and the quiet strength found in caring for others.
The cascading blossoms suggest both the tenderness and the courage of compassion. Their rich magenta tones emerge through layers of expressive colour, while a subtle golden-yellow glow introduces warmth and hope. The interplay between delicate botanical forms and an expressive background reflects the balance between vulnerability and strength.
The bleeding heart reminds us that compassion requires openness. To truly connect with another, we must be willing to feel, to recognise our shared humanity and sometimes to carry a little of another's pain.
Part of the BLOOM – Human Virtues in Flower collection, this work invites us to consider compassion not as weakness, but as one of our greatest human strengths.
