Echo of Joy explores joy as an experience that refuses to stay neatly within boundaries.
Sunflower forms expand across and beyond the edges of the painting, emerging through layers of luminous yellow, orange, pink, blue and turquoise. Loose black gestures weave between the blooms, while scattered flashes of hot pink suggest confetti caught in motion. Around the dark flower centres, tiny points of brilliant colour create another kind of movement — a subtle echo of dancing figures and the exuberant energy found elsewhere in ANnew’s explorations of joy.
Although the flowers remain recognisable, botanical accuracy gives way to gesture, repetition and sensation. Some blooms are sharply present; others dissolve into the surrounding colour, as though appearing and disappearing within a remembered moment.

Part of the Abstract Echoes collection, Echo of Joy translates the symbolism of ANnew’s more representational work into a freer visual language. Rather than depicting joy literally, the painting asks what joy might feel like: expansive, imperfect, spontaneous and gloriously difficult to contain.
