“Music from the Clouds” imagines a world where the sky itself is humming with quiet songs—and where personal memories drift through the air alongside the clouds.
Floating, cloud‑like forms move across a luminous field of purples and blues, outlined in inky black that gently holds them in place. Within and around them, clusters of yellow and red dots, scribbled lines, and fragments of musical notation create a sense of rhythm, as though a melody is rising and dissolving in the air. The music itself is collaged from old sheet music that belonged to my dad, adding an intimate, nostalgic layer beneath the abstraction. The marks never resolve into a literal score, but they hint at sound, memory, and emotion carried on the wind.
In keeping with my symbolic realism, this work isn’t about depicting a specific landscape; it’s about translating a feeling. The clouds become a metaphor for the thoughts, moods, and moments of inspiration that pass through us—fleeting, changeable, and sometimes unexpectedly harmonious. The integration of my father’s sheet music speaks to lineage, connection, and the way the influences of those we love continue to echo through our lives. The lively colour palette and playful marks add a sense of optimism, making this piece feel both whimsical and contemplative.
