What shape does gratitude take?
The Shape of Gratitude explores an emotion that cannot be contained in a single form—gathering, unfolding and moving outward through layers of colour, gesture and mark-making.
Created in dialogue with the symbolic work Gratitude, this expressive abstraction carries elements of its organic language into a less literal space. Violet and green emerge from sweeping passages of white, while circular marks trace an irregular rhythm through the composition, drawing the eye into its centre before carrying it outward again. Scrapes, drips and traces of the painting process remain visible, their unexpected directions disrupting the logic of gravity and adding to the sense of movement.
Areas of concentrated colour and activity give way to a quieter grey field, creating a tension between energy and stillness, presence and space. Forms suggest petals, growth and unfurling without ever resolving completely into something recognisable.
