Wisdom Reimagined explores wisdom not simply as knowledge, but as the ability to look more deeply, recognise what may initially be hidden, and draw meaning from experience.
At first, the iris commands attention. Look longer and the watchful eyes of an owl emerge from within the flower — an ancient symbol of wisdom, perception and the ability to see beyond the immediately apparent.
More quietly embedded within the painting is Nyansapo, the “wisdom knot.” An Adinkra symbol associated with wisdom, ingenuity and intelligence, it also speaks to the capacity to draw upon knowledge and experience in order to navigate what lies ahead. Rather than being presented overtly, the symbol is absorbed into the surrounding landscape, becoming clearer through sustained looking.
Layers of violet, turquoise, green and luminous yellow allow flower, owl, symbol and landscape to move between revelation and concealment. Like wisdom itself, not everything is offered at first glance.
